I love the end of this article - "sleep well everyone!"
Very scary to think how close we had come. So many people would starve to death.

Consider this a hijack Just to steeps post, some may know I'm following Yellowstone and other minor natural events, through my travels I met a bloke that has inside knowledge on the happenings of Yellowstone Well to summerise a major shift event pn that volcano happened in 2012 and was kept very hush hush Another one, 2 largish astroids have passed very close to earth in the past 2 years (that i know of) and no notice was given till they were seen over land, they were both non events but zero notice on any of the conmon channls... (Normally star gazers post photos and look at this all over the web and facebook) To make a point, the bulk of the world will have no clue when any such event would happen and the ones that are in the know will keep it so close to heart that we won't know till the symptoms are apparent.... Just be aware of this, use forums not only for information but a early warning system, make some friends in the USA, Canada, UK, and nz (and any other that float your boat) use social media if it works for you, at the end of the day the government don't give a flying f about us but about themselves, and maintaining power when the world is finished... (2012 is a perfect example of how the government will act) As preppers this info is neither here or there, but its important to understand, we are on our own

Danny, what makes the emp a harder event to prep for?? Its just a tech is mostly useless scenario... (All other expected damage from any other long term shtf event won't change the basics)
But if you have space, a old fridge or chest freezer with good seals, will act as good enough protection for electrical items that are worth storing, just need a earth and leave goods in packaging (eg, hand held radios) and it should be protected (i have not tested this, or have 100% confadince in it, but the concept is sound)

Mainly allot of my skills are technology based, in reviving it, re-using it and re-purposing it. I have food, shelter, water and can obtain more of those over time. All I meant mate was I don't have a Faraday exactly and that my radios and allot of other stuff like my transport would be cactus. Anyway.

Chances are your car will work the USA government dose testing on trucks (and cars to a article, I need to find it) The summery chances are most cars and trucks will be unaffected by a emp, but you will only have the fuel you have, and to be honest i doubt all electronics will be completely dead (some will be parts salvagable some no dammage, most fried beyond repair) Its one of a few events there is so little real info on speculation rules and i cant buy into all electronics will be killed, i buy the grids will be down and infastructure will be useless... And lots if other damage... Untill a atmospheric nuke test or the emp hits no one can predict the damage to the levels speculated, just it will be a world changing event Plan for pre industrial age living with a modern twist

Reinforces what I've read before, we don't need Faraday cages for CME and I can't see us getting an EMP event in Oz. So I'm happy

Lol grey, if there was a electronic item you depend on (OK you won't depend on it) a cage won't hurt

I just checked with TESIS (www.tesis.lebedev.ru) and looked at the July 2012 monitoring, we only had a series of X1.1 and X1.4 flares. The CMEs indicated may have been caused by the number of continuous M-Class that were experienced in the first half of that month.
We had worse last year with a series of X-Class over a period of several days (around May 13-15, 2013) and that could have caused major damage to our infrastructure.
