If I was going to do it ... this would be how.
A good improvement would be to put each drum on a milk crate to get it off the ground a bit. You could do melons and cucumbers like this and just let the vines trail down over the sides of the bucket (would slit open some 13mm poly lengthwise and use it to cap the bucket edge in so the vine stems don't get damaged.)
I've seen similar done using pairs of recycled square 20l surfactant drums. One with top cut out for the pot and one full of water for the 'stand'. (They're made to be stackable)
