Scenario - you have been fleeing from a major city or town and trying to get away as far as possible you are travelling with others whom you have met along the way:
a youngish woman (you rescued from her apartment when some thugs broke in and tried to attack her),
a middle aged single mother (this lady is very independent and great with firearms) with 2 teenage children, a boy of 17 and a girl of 15.
You have encountered many dangers along the way that you have overcome but you are now tired and low on food. Fuel you have been able to find on the way is now getting low,
You were captured by a group who are situated in an out of the way compound, (they stole most of the ammunition for the weapons you had) but were able to escape, although the single gun toting mother was shot in the back while trying to protect her kids. She is alive but very weak, and you take of in your vehicle with all. You drive at a furious pace to get away as quickly as possible and eventually find you are not so sure where you are. The car runs out of fuel right near a wooded area, you have a wounded woman in the car and her teen daughter is very anxious about her mum. The young woman is someone you have been able to rely on as she has learnt quickly how to survive. You push the car into the woods to hide it from the main road, it is night so you set up a camp site
In the morning you need to make a decision, you know you can't move the wounded mother who is laying in the car tummy down, you have antibiotics to give her which will help with any infections. The teenage boy has also become confident with a firearm and in fact so has the teen girl but she is really upset about her mum and is being a little difficult. You have no fuel for the car and where you are camped has maybe a few small animals to trap and possibly some mushrooms (or other food item depending on the area you are in). There is a good water source nearby. You have maybe 3 handguns with limited ammo.
Decision - Option 1) You tell everyone you are going to find a fuel source. The closest source is a weeks journey by foot (you don't know this when you set out), and you don't have very much food and must take one of the handguns with you! You have no idea what you will face when you get to it!
Option 2) You decide to stay with the others and camp out until the mother is strong enough to walk for a bit. This can take a couple of weeks and she needs extra food to help her get stronger.
DO you stay or go?
NB- This scenario I have taken from a book about an EMP I have been reading!
