Just wondering if anyone has driven down their Main Street lately and found that that either shops are closed or there is a plethora of cheap shops taking over... I live in a large rural community that "prides" itself on being a large contributor to the global economy but 3/4 of the town seems to be either out of business or is for sale Yep, there are a heap of commercial & industrial properties empty here in Perth - whether for lease or sale or both. Part of the problem is the economy in general - which is hardly surprising given the idiots at every level of government. Here (WA) there's still fallout from the crash of the mining boom (although it wasn't a mining boom at all; it was a construction boom that occurred on the mines). There's also the increasing cost of compliance with red tape. And the cost of employing people. And rent costs. And the media thinking they're important, especially when they're claiming the sky is falling. And everything adds up. Trust me - I manage three businesses. And not a day goes by where I don't consider throwing in the towel and doing something much simpler without all of these concerns. Don't even start me on rural issues; government is so keen to support drongos that those who provide us with food are neglected. It's a national shame, tragedy, and disgrace. But in all of these issues, the politicians and bureaucrats who make the rules are so far removed from reality that they don't know asshole from breakfast. For our non-Australian members, "drongos" refers to those people who are a mixture of non-working, lazy, of an entitlement mentality, and generally stupid. And not knowing "asshole from breakfast" indicates that their heads are so far up the aforementioned orifice that they're clueless as to the real world and the people trying to make their way in it. End rant.
