Carp are a favourite fish in China, and the locals are very taken aback when I say they're not really eaten outside Asia. I showed a couple of colleagues an Aussie news article about the rivers being overrun with carp and caught for use as fertiliser a while. They were flabbergasted that anyone could waste food like that.

Fei: Is it possible the carp that folks in Asia enjoy are different to the European Carp we have here? Enjoy carp while you can. Pretty soon they will be much less abundant due to biological control program. www.abc.net.au/news/2018-10-12/carp-herpes-virus-plans-put-on-hold/10370836Studies suggest the total biomass of carp in South Australian waterways is estimated between 500,000 and 2 million tonnes. Imagine what happens when huge tonnages of these start dying off. The river and lower lakes will be pretty stinky for a while!
