There is no imminent threat from asteroids. Various searches over the past 20 years have discovered and plotted the orbits of a million asteroids. There aren't any big ones left with unknown orbits. The real risk is comets. They are unpredictable and we are decades (possibly a century) away from discovering them all. We'd have to observe all the way to the Oort cloud and adequately observe billions of dark, slow moving ice balls. We are not even remotely close to being able to do this. Right now we can only observe them when they enter the inner solar system and flare brightly.
