Earlier today my Sweetie let me know Prince Phillip died...
Here I think a lot of the attitude towards the royal family is.... that's nice, if it is important to you.. enjoy.... I'm sure there are many in the UK that think a lot of them, and for a long time they were quite important to the country and people..
Not sure how they are viewed in your part of the world... You will have to educate me..
I remember seeing an interview with Phillip a number of years ago where he was showing his Land Rover converted into a mobile BBQ kitchen.. I have seen a couple cooking videos by a guy who cooked for the royal family and he also saying Phillip was a very accomplished grill cook.. Many times cooking for the family and staff..
Regardless.. Too bad the old guy passed.. Also it will be a good idea to keep a close eye on the queen.. Most of us may have seen that when one of an older couple goes down hill or passes, the other goes down hill quickly as well...

The monarchy is Australia still has major support and following. I don't get it myself but there are a zillion British expats and staunch old school Aussies that can’t let this one go. Born into ones station is repugnant to me and i would like to see the powers of the Governor general extinguished. I don't care if we keep the pomp but Britain should never again be able to wield any power over us, this is the job for Gina, elon, gatesey and boozos. Someone will always fill the vacuum.

I think most people are relatively ambivalent here. It's sad for his family, but beyond that not many folk seem to be that personally invested. Most people seem to have the (fair) opinion that he had a great wicket and he clearly was ready to go. After reading a bit about him and his personality it sounds like he was a pretty impressive person in his own right. And as one article that I read pointed out, he was a Naval officer and an alpha male personality... But he had to live 'in the shadow' of his wife and give up his career to do so.
There's a lot of folk who're particularly militant about their anti-monarchy stance here. Comes from being a convict nation, and I doubt it'll ever go away. But as Beno points out, there's a lot of support as well. I sit in the middle. I have a lot of respect for certain individuals on the basis of their achievements. But they don't have an impact me as an institution.

For many people in Oz, the English are their hereditary enemies. Their aristocracy ARE the biggest thieves of all time - ask any Irish, Dutch, German, Spanish, Russian, American, Indian, Chinese, African, Middle-Eastern, Native American, Australian Aboriginal or Pacific Islander. With the English royal family being the leader of their historic crime syndicate. Having said that ... I just don't give a crap about any of the Windsors either way.
(Honorable mention to the French ... their aristocracy were pretty good stealers too!)
