Since I dont have an oven at the moment I've been slow cooking ribs and such in my smoker/BBQ. That works well but I wanted an option to use the fire I seem to have going most of the time. I seem to have misplaced the large open fire cast iron plate/grill I used to have so today I spent 10 minutes and zero dollars on a redneck slow cooking oven given that a Smeg option isn't presently available. I'm sure that our Ausprep collective has many neat redneck creations to suit a variety of day to day needs ... show us what you've created (not just ovens)!

Weve been collecting cast iron cookware from the tip for years and have quite an assortment of gear, from relatively new stuff, to 1940's , heavy cast cookware that will last another 60 years. We have more than we need, but now have some for trading WTSHTF.

Plough discs make good bbq plates over an open fire, also with a couple of star pickets to hold them. Any type of empty food tin can make a decent billy with the addition of fencing wire as a handle.

Plough discs are fairly bullet resistant too. Well ... the old ones were. Not sure about stuff made after the 80's.

spall as in pop fragments off the back of the disc? Or as in shatter the projectiles?
I can't recall spalling of the actual disc ... but I also haven't shot one since the early 90's. So memory a bit hazy. We only tested it against a .222 and it took that no worries at all.
I'm even more impressed if .30/06 can't achieve a penetration!!
Jesus ... liquid nails a heap of those small hex floor tiles on the front and it'd be awesome armour.

The bullets barely leaving a dent and just leaving the star shape where the lead was forced out on impact

Ill have to take a pic next time im out, i use a length of rebar (about a meter) with a hook to suspend a wok over open flame. Smash the rebar into the ground first and then build the fire around it, attach wok via some steel cable ties and use tongs to steady the wok and tongs to cook.
