An underground store would be nice, but we had a composting toilet at our other farm, built under the house with the pit access under the verandah. Despite trying, we just could not get the pit to seal properly and it was always damp, and even had water laying in it that managed to get in through the brick retaining wall. Then there is the issue of ventilation, no issue with the toilet as it had a vent shaft, but could be with a root store.
We are looking at getting another insulated shipping container, one that used ships refrigeration rather than a motorized compressor as no room is lost to a machinery space.
Lambing time, lots of lambs and a couple of ones the mothers rejected, so the they are being bottle fed. more pets !!
There are a few boys amongst this lot, so the freezer will get feeding in a few months time.
Blindness to the late hour is cheered as optimism, confidence in the false gods of technology is sanctified while doubters of the technocratic theocracy are crucified as irredeemable infidels.

I have read people saying feral camel is quite good eating.. Feral bull some consider low grade dog food at best.. Other than freezing, no one has mentioned pressure canning any of these meats..
Facts, details, experience ??

That might be because quality jars and lids are in very short supply.

She who must be obeyed saw that coming and stockpiled lots of lids and jars.
When in doubt, empty the magazine….

Camel is, in my experience, very nice. I haven't had it by itself but in other dishes like pies and stews. I really enjoyed it. That being said it's probably a little silly to base my assessment on a mixed dish heh.
I've got a small stock of jars aside. I'm also washing and keeping jam jars etc. now where I rarely used to. I'd only keep a jar if it was for a specific reason but now I keep them.

I have put some roo and beef into a dehydrator, then into heat sealed mylar bags with oxygen absorbers, opened some last year after 10y storage and were fine to eat. Less storage weight, space and more portable.

She who must be obeyed has been water bath canning chicken pieces for a few months now, and we opened one the other day after 6 months..perfect.
The dehydrator is running every dry day, sometimes the old round one as well, to dehydrate as much as possible. My sister also has her dehydrator running as well. Luckily she has her own power system to run it on.
The formal term is Bovine Fecal material.

So is this where the new house is going FB? Or is that another property? I'm losing track what's going on here?! The new house is going on the coastal retreat in 2025. I had a new shed built on the high country retreat recently and I’m currently doing the electrical fitout in it.

This is the design we have settled on but with some minor changes. The store room and linen become one big store room for all my food preps, the double garage becomes a triple with a glass sliding door at the rear ( the home gym) and the alfresco area gets longer. Also the shower in the ensuite become full room width, with double rain heads so Mrs and I can save water by showering at the same time, well that’s the reason I’ve given her Add an in ground pool, a spa, a concrete 12 person fire bunker, solar panels and 110,000 litres of water storage and we’re looking at about $1.1m to $1.2m to build.

That's very similar to what we're looking for in our forever home. We're planning to add a room similar to what you're doing for food preps and probably enough space to fit the freezedryer in there as well so that I can have that space permanently temperature controlled for optimum storage and running conditions for the machine. We're also looking for a place with two office spaces because we both WFH but lately we've been looking at building as an option because we're also considering having a root cellar/basement storage space for the pantry and stores. That'd mean getting an engineer in to make sure that it's built safely and takes moisture and temperature conditions into account for a below-ground structure.
We're no good at figuring that kind of thing out ourselves and because it's our forever home we want to get it right the first time so we're willing to pay extra. Could end up costing a similar amount by the time we buy the land and figure out the build we want. Houses are expensive!

OK, so coastal and high country. Is that high country residence in the pic a few posts above connected to the grid? Looks like a cracker spot to set up a largish ground mount solar array.

The high country retreat is totally off grid. Each cabin has a 600w system, which meets our current power needs. It was designed to be upgraded, but our power needs are minimal.

Spent 2 days at the retreat with a friend who is an electrician. Wiring in new cabin now finished and I’ve started lining the external walls with R4 insulation. All the plasterboard arrives in just over a weeks time.

A few questions: Did you get the shed designed and built with windows already in place or retrofit them? Can you please put up a few pics of how those windows are fitted into walls/framing before the plasterboard is put on. How easy is it to use the steel framing system for lining out and putting in internal walls? (I've got plenty experience with timber but not steel and am wondering which way to go for doing my framing).
