Yip, did I hear correctly the one woman said she did not take a sleeping bag, that will be a first anywhere in the world. And took such a small ferro rod and used half of it in one attempt to start fire, the other made fire and left it in the rain and complained it went out.... They guy that tapped first said that if a person wants to be miserable and uncomfortable good on them, it is not for him. Did he really think he was going on an all expense holiday camp... Alone is described as the Olympics of survival where are these guys mindset... and what are the producers doing.. I will now be band for life for every entering the show as criticizing the producers is the most cardinal sin.....

The series may be a benefit for preppers, as the general public will think that that's what its all about and WTSHTF, wont have a clue and will all die off quicker !

What happened to them only letting people on the show who could prove that they are survival experience/training or have a foot in the industry? This was to stop any tom dick or harry going on and just wasting time thinking they can get their 15mins of fame and try and get some easy cash

The women who took a very small ferro rod tapped out 2nd. The ferro rod was so small that even in the best of times it would only last a short time. Can't understand why she chose such a cheap and crappy ferro rod when she could have spent a little extra to get a quality and larger ferro rod. The one without a sleeping bag took a possum fur jacket instead and as it clothing it was not classified as on of her 10 items - smart. And she purposely put on weight before hand as part of her strategy - smart again. I think she has a good chance and is unlikely to tap out early.

In the US they have to go a few days without food make primitive fire, get given a live rabbit and have to dress and cook it.

ALONE Yip when i first read that they were making an AUS alone there was a statement from the producers that they are looking at showcasing indigenous survival. But they have some issues, in that they need people who can use a camera and are presentable, also the environment is brutal. Most indigenous people take them out of their local environment and they are useless. Skill sets are limited to what they know. I have worked in Africa, Asia including Mongolia the locals skills sets are ok for their environment. Put them in a foreign environment and their ability to problem solve is limited. Will see how the rest of the show goes... Looking to see how they make boats, jetties, and change there environment to suit them.

How much firewood do you need, how much caloris will be wasted not having a sleeping bag.. An extra ration is not going to make that much deference in that environment. The only smart thing they did was put on a lot of body weight. There was more focus on going in with a high body weight than any other alone I have seen. I suppose most of the wildlife would be off limits for hunting, rather painful.

So its not 'reality TV ?' How disappointing, sounds like a waste of time.

Outback Mike who is on the show, has done a recap vid. Speaks about the possum coat, it has issues not very warm and if gets wet will not dry out.

Finally dialled in to watch the first and second episodes of this show, "THIS PROGRAM FEATURES TRAINED SURVIVAL EXPERTS DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED" - laughing. It's a joke and an embarrassment to Australia. This is going to be viewed all around the Globe and it makes us look pretty bad! Public Servant "First Nation" wannabes, the odd tradie and a real technician by way of Mike, the only truly experienced bloke that should be on the show and he looks to get the least airtime! Interestingly the ones advertising their indig "spiritual connection" to the land are the first ones to be tapping out!
Example:- Any Fero Rod will do the job, it's the selection, prep and refining of the Tinder that is key to using these things, get that right and you will get a flame first strike virtually every time!

Maybe the ABC should do a program on real preppers, those who are stocking up, growing food, getting independent power and water systems organized, refining their communications gear and skills, practicing hunting skills and so on.
Detailing the types of equipment needed, nite scopes, bug out gear in case it really all falls over in a bad way, forming alliances, and how to accommodate family members WTSHTF.
Training, both self and as a group, any things you have set up to enhance that training agenda, such as a firing range, etc.
That would be worth watching, but a half a dozen people, never mind they were from different background, trying to survive for an unspecified time, alone, smacks of pandering to the mass entertainment market.
And WTSHTF, being a 'lone wolf' isn't gunna work, you will need to be part of a community of like minded individuals, banding together for mutual help and defense.

Anyone who took part in a program like this would want to have control of the content aired, and be sure that important things were not edited out. Media are good at twisting information to suit their own agenda, as we all know! I would certainly like to see a genuine program on skilled preppers and their methods. I'm sure I could learn a lot from real people and places that I could relate to. But, I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

Since majority of viewers are urban preppers, urban prepping and community groups would be the go. Emergency response for bushfire, floods, roads cutoff would be good. How to prepare and deal with local and regional/disasters. South Korea and Swiss have put out pamphlets for the community on preparedness.

I do think that urban preppers are gunna be behind the 8 ball WTSHTF though. The threat will be from unprepared people who think they can take what u have stocked up on.
And the OPSEC is a serious issue.
I sent Big Wei Battery's a photo of one of the installs here, and they want permission to use the photo. I am reluctant to grant that, after all, privacy is more important. Ditto for articles submitted to professional publications, submitted under a pseudonym is probably the way to go.
Our biggest peacetime threat is bushfires and storms, and knowing how to deal with a fire should be on all preppers hit list, having gear to fight a bushfire as well, because, WTSHTF, u can be sure the RFS wont be around to help, u will be on your own.
Spare solar panels in case of storm damage should be stocked as well.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

At a time when the American contestants were issued Flare Pistols (current Netflix, "OUTLAST") to indicate a "Tap Out" did anyone notice the full-size fire extinguisher next to the Aussie campfire? I bet that was a mandatory requirement for the production to go ahead, some effwit, overzealous Public Servant going their hardest! Well actually given the dismal quality of most of the participants probably a wise precaution!
