The fact that this is even being thought about is bad news for anyone with a car.
www.news.com.au/national/victoria/federal-government-considers-charging-drivers-per-kilometre-to-pay-for-roads/story-fnii5sms-1226988912045
"THE Federal Government says it is “closely considering” charging drivers per kilometre they travel in order to pay for roads. A final report into infrastructure by the Productivity Commission has recommended pilot technical studies of how cars and light vehicles might be charged.
It recommends adopting telematics, which can monitor a vehicle’s location and movements in real time.
“The application of a charging mechanism created by rapidly changing communications technology appears promising,” the report says."

Much the same as burner phones, unregistered firearms etc. People will also end up with unregistered vehicle's stored as a future prep.

Funnily enough I love the idea of paying for miles used because we have several regos to pay and for example the truck hasn't moved in the last 2 years. But it would have to be with a hubometer or some such, none of this real-time monitoring crap.
