Hey guys,
So i recently bought a biolite camp stove I have wanted one of these babies for awhile, especially for my overnight and longer hiking.
www.biolitestove.com
But being a uni student budget is slim for this sort of gear. The cheapest I have seen is australian sellers for 180 on ebay.
So I thought i would review the product, basically it is a camp stove that is compact and reasonably light weight that can burn and biological fuel, twigs, branches, leaves, weeds and anything really. Concept is simple, it has a generator on the side that initially you need to charge once, after that it stores its own energy! one the fire is going, the generator has a fan the blows oxygen into the stove creating a cyclone effect and this stokes the fire and really gets the heat going with minimal fuel. The fan enable the stove to burn fuel completely and can last quite a while on really little amount, if you want more heat for a rolling boil you can up the fan speed, but this does burn through fuel a bit quicker.
The beauty of the design is one the fire is hot enough the generator produces excess energy, its not heaps like a wall charge but it charges devices through usb. In my books its pretty sweet, electricity from fire. My recommendation is that you use a power bank instead of straight to your phone as your more likely to use the energy as its being produced instead of storing it.
Pros really are there is almost no smoke, and its is so hot! Boiled water in about 3 minutes from some twigs in the backyard. Check out some review and see what you think.
Cons price point is high, but i have seen more and more coming into Aus, my cousin got a brand new one on gumtree for $80 and i payed $160 with the attachable bbq grill which in store is $99, this is all brand new product too!
If your interested and want to know more shoot me a message and if you have a great cooking system let me know!
Hope that helps anyone thinking of choosing a cook system.
