Worked really well with four out of five eggs (one fell apart a bit for no apparent reason). After trying the glass with great success, I wondered if a jar with a lid might work (I was splashing a fair amount of water) -- the jar worked great! Thanks, Matilda! ...Now does anyone know a fool-proof way of opening stuck jars? Trying to open the mayonnaise, and an elastic band is not cutting it, nor is tapping the edge of the lid with a knife.

The egg in tube is not that fresh. The fresher the egg the harder to peel. Stale egg shell nealy fall off. We hardly ever try to peel hard boiled eggs that are really fresh ( today or yesterday) . Tho very fresh eggs poach superbly. Like a chef.

Scoutmum - try putting on rubber gloves - the ones with the dimples on them that are used for washing up. I have a rubber square (Tupperware) that is worth it's weight in gold for sticking jars or ones not yet opened.
I peeled about a dozen on Sunday. I then scoop out the yokes and combine curry powder and mayo and salt to taste. You can pipe the egg yoke mixture back into the whites or spoon it in and then sprinkle paprika/parsley on top. When my Son asks me to do 'his favourite' I usually sigh thinking of the battle to keep the eggs in tact!! I'll keep your suggestion in mind fractus - thanks!

Ha ha! Very funny Mr. Pete.
It's very sad. I used to be quite strong, but after two babies in two years, and everyone running around going 'Oh, no. Don't do that. Don't strain yourself...' I'm a bloody weakling.
I've made a mental note to get the husband to open it on the weekend when he's home. Hopefully I don't forget again (baby brain)!

I use a tea spoon to peel mine, works perfectly if it is hard boiled, if soft, it still works but can be a bit messy.

Slip a bread knife up under the lid of the jar - breaks the vacuum seal and then lid easy to screw off ?? I do have a few butter knives with the tip bent a little though lol. Always works do worth it!

Apologies in advance - but I really can't resist this one... Hahaha. I've hand milked cows most of my life and can open any jar (almost), problem is when I close a jar too hard . I have trouble with large lids and then have to go ask hubby to do the Alpha male thing.
