My grandfather and his brother were in the 2nd AIF, my grandfather was gassed twice, shot three times and came home a wreck, died in suspect circumstances in the 50's.
His brother unfortunately died of some infection on the ship near England, and never even made it to the war.
My other grandfather was captured at the fall of Singapore and spent the rest of the war building railways for the Japanese. He died a decade ago from the effects of his time as a prisoner of war.
I was smashed up in a tank accident in Australia (we were not in any big wars at the time).
Moral of the story, my family does not come out too well by serving and protecting the country.

But from this Aussie to a Digger - I thank you for your service and what you and your family did to protect us.

And I thank the Australian Regiments and citizens who stood with us during the Vietnam War. I visited Sydney for my 5 day R&R and I had a great time (what little I remember of it).
