The US considers this a toy and sells it at apartment stores. We used to sell the equivalent [and firearms for that matter] in Australian department stores, oh and now they're 'deadly' and you need licensing and nobody under 18 can 'own' one. *laughs*

Bought my first 22 mag from the sports department at K Mart. They were displayed on the wall in a horizontal gun rack. A fun rifle. That was about thirty five years ago. They wrote my name and licence number in a ledger kept at the counter.

I've often thought about moving to NZ. If it was not for the friends and family here I would likely move, though I'd probably go to the US in that case.
Still NZ is viable as its only a short hop....

I lived in NZ for a while many years ago. Great place, and good for shooting because it's so small your overshoots go harmlessly out to sea

I lived in NZ for a while many years ago. Great place, and good for shooting because it's so small your overshoots go harmlessly out to sea Lol. Tell me more bud, I'm thinking about it as an option? Suppressors so you don't scare the sheep, semi-autos without too much fuss, pistols with less fuss than here [though still restrictive] heck even fully working machineguns if you're a collector, and you pay $12/year. That alone makes me cringe with having to be a member of club, paying 2 types of firearms registration which puts me back about $520/year lol. Make your own spirits, shoot off some fireworks during guy forks to remind the government who's actually in charge and are ranked 4th most peaceful country on the planet There's plentiful arable land with great rainfall [so much green] so self sufficiency's is straight forward, it's a prepper's dream really. For me the economic climate [and taxation-welfare] that's on the downside, earthquakes [potentially volcanoes] and family/friends not being there. If only I could convince them all to move. On the surface [never been there] it seems a lot like what it used to be here in Oz, do what you want so long as you're not doing stupid things or hurting others, the attitude of a 'fair go' the norm and the police generally don't carry firearms. Oh and you can move tomorrow if you like and for ever [if you don't leave], see HERE and can always go for permanent resident if you like, which seems to be mostly formality if you've been a good person. I'll visit this year or next and do some scouting.
