As much as mine doesn't like me "wasting" money on a small stock of cans in the cupboard bought on special, she refuses to play or watch me play fallout 4 on the Xbox because as she said, "I don't want to see what the future will look like".
So she knows one day the world is doomed. Next time I go shooting with our mutual friends we are going to go camping and do some shooting, get her involved in a rabbit and too hunt to get her used to it. Or at the bare minimum get her paper punching after I sight in my new rifles.
As you say, slowly slowly

Great stuff.
I'm fortunate that Mrs Pete fully supports my preparedness goals. The problem is that she needs to stop wasting hours upon hours on bookface and do more prepping study and practice herself. If something was to happen to me, she'd be left in a good financial position with decent food stocks but she'd struggle to fend for herself in my absence. Hopefully a good shoot sometime soon will help encourage her to get more hands-on.

Well done Frostbite. Sounds like your situation is much like mine. Mrs Nomad is well happy to stock up on food, and although not interested in guns seems happy (or at least tolerant) with my interest. Yes I'd like to introduce her to shooting, but at present she thinks I only have 2 guns because that's the most she's ever seen at the same time. The thing is she's seen DIFFERENT guns but they are so far under her radar that she didn't recognise that fact. If she were to become interested then she would start to recognise the gear I've bought and I'd be in trouble. More seriously though she spends ALL day on the internet when I would like her to be perfecting things like bread making from milled wheat etc etc. This is a double whammy because I find myself now starting to say "f*ck it, why do I have to do everything" and that's affecting my output, I find that I don't start doing much until after lunch these days and needless to say a lot less is getting done. Still she is more or less on board so that's a start, and I need to stop whinging and just do more.

Hm, I just wrote out a long reply, then re-read and it sounded too much like a rant against my wife. All I can say is congrats to whoever can cathch their "monkey", as I unfortunately have a long way to go on that front.

When I first saw the thread "Catching the Monkey" I thought maybe you had a pet monkey who got away, then you had to berate and spank it for being naughty! But, it is good to have the other half on board, even if only a little - mine finally conceded that my food stores need to be better stored, so has made room inside the house - I guess the catch to that is that when she needs something she raids my stash!!! I have been told in no uncertain terms "NO MORE FOOD", so now I but non food items instead!!!!! She has warmed to the idea of buying a block of land, even with an old house on it to renovate. So this is my next project.

Mine is still adamant to move back to Brissy As she told me last night reading off facerape about a heap of people in this town and reporting having people in their backyards and opening doors and acting really shady around the place. And she said if we moved to the place I want to move then when I'm away at work she will be scared that the boogie man will come. I told her that the house plan I liked had a cold room that I would get converted in the build into either a gun room or just for her a safe room with hidden doorway and I'll have cameras set up around the house and entry gates to alarm if anybody coming and she can hide away. She somehow thinks she is safer in a capital city

Great stuff mate. I nearly lost Jinny over prepping and stuff!!! But she is on-board now!!!Phew....
Guns, well I have let her use some of mine and she likes the ISSC .22 (Glock look alike!) light and easy to use! And the shot gun. But looks like I will be the main security, as is my job as hubby!!! I kill she can cook...not necessarily what I kill...LMAO...
I would have liked to have a block on the coast but OPSEC was my main reason to go inland and away from main roads!
But we are happy!!!! So best wishes for this new prepping union mate! Long may you both prosper!

The weather can change very quickly with the fairer sex.....I just got caught watching PopAsia On a serious note, the property we were interested in has access issues. I'm over right of carriage ways. So the search continues. We did, however, nut out a self sufficient retirement plan over a romantic dinner at a posh restaurant right on the water (and I mean right on, about 50cm away). You may be able to buy one of the blocks near us!!!

Well done FB. I am lucky, the wife and I are on the same page prep wise. This year, as soon as my friend gets his firearms instructors licence, we are both getting our licences. We have been extremely fortunate to locate cheap manures, cow, horse, fowl. some of them are actually free, just have to go collect it. We have not purchased veggies in almost 12 months now. Our next door neighbour is our bee specialist, and we can get cheap honey and wholesale bees wax for candle making this year. My electrician friend is going to hard wire our power box up to run off a gen set if the power goes out medium to long term.
Things have actually sped up in the last few months in our church prep wise. It is about the only topic of conversation since about August last year.

I was the monkey.... (well sort of, always had the feeling something was going to happen but never did anything about it)
For years, I watched as the old girl slowly but surely built her preps up and pretty much either ignored and accepted what she did.
2 things happened....
1. CHCH Quakes... It was a big eye opener watching (Particularly old people) suffer because they had nothing and lived hand to mouth where they could.
2. Her kids came to stay with the grand kids...
Now you know what kids are like... they are into everything and it wasn't long before questions started........ why are their groceries under the beds, in wardrobes, etc etc etc
rather than embarrass their mum with comparisons to the show doomsday preppers which was n the telly at the time, I stated it was me, and used examples of what happened in the quake that I experienced first hand (I was part of the military...) their were and still are some awkward moments but as I have embraced the camping and homesteading/ self sufficient elements of prepping they have pretty much accepted it... and of course they benefit from this as well, particularly the guns for some reason...
so all is good...

turned big time into political bullshit and incompetence.... saw it happen on the day with all the politicians (local and central) and its only got worse...
some many so called important people trying to have their say and nothing meaningful happening cause they so busy planning there next luncheon date and ripping each other off...
nevermind... learning point if it ever happens in your area, lock the fuks out, sack your council and get people in who get things done.... and make people accountable for there actions....

Everyone needs to get their finger in the pie during their time in office. I attended a council meeting when in Aus a few months back, and while not surprised to see that every conceivable "type" or minority seemed to be represented in the council staff, was surprised to read the next day that the mayor was getting paid around $300k per year. As far as I could see, the guy was stuck in a timeframe of at least 20 years ago (he was talking about the council website like it was some wondrous new invention), while most people in the audience seemed to be ignoring everything he was saying.

Which just proves that a good network is one of the most important preps to have. Well done Most definitely. Sometimes the greatest motivator is being able to talk to fellow travellers and get ideas.

It's incompetent to think that politicians should lead anything. Just get out of the way of the people who actually do things and everything will go great.
