Although it may not be a topic some want to talk about, can anyone who has lost a house to fire comment on what it was like? Or having a house destroyed in war?
Generally in terms of how it felt, what was lost forever and also things that were never considered previously. Also how did life go on? What changed afterwards?
A few thought I had were family items, heirlooms and photos lost forever. The sheer fact that the house isn't there any more. The amount of work and stress to sort everything out afterwards.
We have had a house burn down in my family before I was born and another when I was too small to know about it. It must have had an effect because they are remembered with feeling.
Experiences?

My parents and wifes parents all left established homes in Europe and came to Australia with whatever they could fit in a few suitcases. They lived in immigrant camps for a while before getting on their feet economically and moving out into rented properties.
Life goes on. Even without possessions.

We suffered a total loss house fire in 2001. I wouldn't wish the pain on anyone. The insurance company were difficult and tried to short change us at every move.
The issues with my firearms and reimbursement were farcical and the NSW Firearms Registry were are an incredible help when it came to the crunch.
