Hey all , after a bit of time off this is my first design since the car accident and i have had a bit of time to sit down rethink the design and components ,
as ive pushed harder and harder with my hunting /primitive living and survival goals finding myself in more and more remote areas ive come to want better quality gear and that was the first thing that i addressed ,i love kabar and always will , as a budget choice you really cant get a better combination of quality v price ,the next step up was Essee ,also great knives but for the price i felt i could get a better quality knife working with local custom makers and i started asking around , to my surprise Matt from Zu bladeworx ( my personal knife making god ) was able to help and i was able to secure 6 Scout mk2's to build my kits around ( please note not a sales post all have been taken sorry guys ), Cnc machined from german d2 in Sydney these are awesome knives ,with a blade length of 4.5 inches i would classify this more as a bushcraft blade ,but being built by Zu blade worx it is over built and i think it would stand up to some pretty heavy work with careful use ,larger jobs like shelter building are definitely within the bounds of this blade ,the strength of the knife though is fine work and weight /compactness , even with a full survival kit included i would consider this a light weight set up
The second major rethink was the kit itself, survival kits for good reason rely on proven old school tools ,and that works, nature hasnt changed much since we first used flint to start fire but technology has and i wanted to take advantage of that ,while still including the traditional survival kit contents i have tried to look out side the norm and add a few modern advances , the first being a power source ,previously i had included usb solar chargers but after some research i decided that the new thermoelectric usb generators would be a better option ,neither are going to allow you to watch youtube on your iphone but rather give you enough charge to make that call , start that gps to find out where the hell you are you or recharge your torch so that you can make it to that camp site after dusk ,thermoelectric panels will generate a small charge just off body heat in a pinch but obviously work much better with a small fire which is why i have tried to provide a kit whos contents work with and complement each other , the torch used is an olight sr10 , rechargeable via micro usb , i have also included a Readyman rocket stove which the charger can attach to , I have also included Readyman wilderness ,fisherman and medic cards and components that compliment them and allow easy use , for example there are 5 broad heads included in the cards , i have also included a recurve bow kit , a 40lb bow string , 9 fletches and a small amount of glue to construct , with the fisherman and wolderness cards that contain snare and fishing gear i have also included a complementary fishing kit including jelly lures and swivels sinkers etc , as well as high tensile snare wire , as well as a stocking mesh tube which can help catching yabbies and with water filtration ,this is already a long post so i will just put the contents list below but i have tried to continue this method of dual and complementary use through out the kit
Zu blade worx Scout mk2
4.5 inch blade german d2 steel
Olight sr10 batton (500 lumens )
custom ferro and carbide sharpening rods leather stacked handles
Thermoelectric usb charger
Readyman rocket stove
readyman wilderness fisherman and medic cards
space blanket
compass ,magnifying glass
fire accelerant
fishing, sewing and snare kits
recurve bow kit (40lb bow string broad heads fletches )
wire saw
candle
condom (water cartage )
water filtration tablets
stocking mesh tube (water filtration)
Hoochie cord
550 parracord
fire cord
duct tape
first aid kit includes basics as well as
haemostatic wound dressings and wound plugs
antibacterial dressings and wound closure strips
blister pads
survivor tabs x 4 ( ration supplement )
ziplock bag
rubber bands
The sheath itself has four carry options , main carry being scout , but it can also be carried in hip drop leg and shoulder positions with the dangler provided ,as you can see in the picture , with the 2 d rings and dangler , horizontal and vertical belt loops the sheath has a lot of carry options outside the normal , the lanyards are done by Voodoo cords in SA and are actually firecord lanyards , would highly recommend him for anything paracord related anyway hope you like the sheath and kit and feed back would be much appreciated , thanks for looking
