Just how many uses does this thing have? I've taken to carry it in my handbag😎 Starting with the obvious Pruning, making walking sticks, arrows , cutting of a limb😱

Just how many uses does this thing have? I've taken to carry it in my handbag😎 Starting with the obvious Pruning, making walking sticks, arrows , cutting of a limb😱 Yeah I have plenty of axes and hatchets, - but have replaced them with folding saws in BoB and if going into the bush have a heavy duty machete, saw and multi-tool. All those YouTube vid's with people chopping trees down and batoning with a bushcraft knife to me are ridiculous. With a decent saw one can process wood much quicker, safer and with less physical exhaustion. Carrying a knife in a handbag could be an issue with the Australian law - a folding saw will likely get you some very puzzling looks, but I doubt any legal issues.!! LOL quote me on that if you ever get stopped.

Always on the lookout for cuttings and if I get caught out I can make a shelter. Started with an unloved fig tree, had the misfortune of growing in a hedge up against a brick building - on the way to work. Every few months they would trim with vengeance. One day I actually spotted a few figs - taste was wonderful wow! So I brought the saw and took a cutting. Yeah I know about the premeditated weapons clauses, I'm interested in how laws were made and the reasoning often contains wisdom. On the subject of unloved trees, there is a funeral home in the inner suburbs with oak trees growing surrounded by concrete. Poor things grow thousands of acorns all to waste. I picked up a few and now have a meter tall sturdy healthy oak. It even has a name 'Deadman's Oak' Mr starmade thinks it's ghoulish but I love the play in concept.

In Vic could be Dangerous Article if you can't convince them it's not for self defence I would never use an argument that the item purpose was self defense!! The machete in the boot of my vehicle is for remove of invader species and euthanasia of injured wildlife . I could get a legal representative to argue the case due to the nature of my employment. Likewise for the folding saw, my wife has an axe, saws and clipper in the boot of her car - use it for land care property that we occasional work on. One can legally use any item in one's vicinity for self defense but purchasing and having an item specifically for self defense will get you into big trouble. That way I say a folding saw is unlikely to get you into trouble as it can be reasonably argument that it has an alternate purpose and it was not purchased and carried for use as self defense. OK - one better get a legal opinion on the matter - my understanding of Aus legal laws relating to the criminal act/code is just hearsay..

I worked for a guy that started his own nursery just using cuttings he collected from all over the place.

Taking cuttings can be an art - never damage, deface a plant, leave a good clean cut in the correct position. If the plant is on private property - knock on the door and ask. Gardners are a generous lot and more likely than not can walk away with more than asked for. The non gardeners are a funny lot they look at you and say well I don't know etc etc
I will never pick flowers from someones yard - I figure they put it in, now they want to enjoy.
People that have open gardens fear cutting takers like the plague.
I find it's the trees and shrubs that mark my mental map of a place, there are some extraordinary trees growing around the place.

I once drove my car with just a 9mm handgun and a shovel in the boot. Would have been interesting to see the reaction of police had I been pulled over and searched. All totally legal, on my way to a working bee at the pistol club. Kinda wish you had half a roll of duct tape and a bag of bin liners with 2 missing, that wouls leave them speechless!

As usual, if unsure or potentially in a pickle don't be telling the police anything without legal representation.
