Funny you should mention that ...
I came across a patch of a variety that is new to me last week. I pulled one up to take lots of pictures for later identification (which I couldn't do because I didn't think to try and break the stem out of the cap - an important diagnostic).
Went back this morning and they are all gone. I think a fox may have taken them as I heard one a little way off in the scrub and there were no signs of roo to be seen. I cant think what else would completely consume them without leaving signs.
So ... do I conclude that if a fox can eat them I can eat them? Or ... the fox that ate them died and the one I heard was its mate/young looking for it?
