A fun thing for a change... I enjoy watching, following the Olympics off and on as the games go..
For the winter games a couple of my favorites are bob sled and biatholon... At one time I had youth members of a biathalon club in Firearms Safety classes... Part of the class was a range day with 22 rifles.. The biathalon club members could rent a retired Olympic grade 22 rifle to practice with. Even retired, these were an extremely quality firearm.. All class members from that club were very good shots..
Those bob sled riders were either the bravest or most brainless bunch I ever seen.. But fun to watch..
To this day.... One thing that still tears me up is the closing ceremony of the 2000 (?) games in Australia when Slim Dusty sings Waltzing Matilda...
It is said this years Canadian womens curling team is a favorite...
Even over and above all the political BS there seems to be every year ...we won't attend because of ...fill in the blank... political reason, I still enjoy watching and following a bit.. It is for the competitors, not the damn politicians..
Anyone else like, watch, enjoy the games..

I'll be honest, I've never really been a one to watch the olympics. Even the summer olympics don't really interest me that much. But then I'm not a one to watch the cricket, football, or tennis either which seems to make me un-australian hahaha. If I have to be involved, I at least want to be playing it myself. Watching it doesn't do much for me. If it happens to be on and someone else is watching it though, I'll sit and watch for a few minutes before moving on to do something else.
In fairness though (and absolutely without trying to make it political) China has just put a sour taste in my mouth over the whole thing regardless. It's absolutely supposed to be about the athletes, but they did everything BUT make it about the athletes. Even turning the US lass who's competing for China into a 'win for China against the US'. It's all felt very "you have to be nice to us because the whole world is watching ner ner ner".
But I'm not going to pretend that I would otherwise watch it intentionally, or that I'm boycotting the games or anything. I just have even less motivation to watch it than normal hahaha!

Not watching this one. Too much in common with the 1936 olympics.

As a general comment, I don't see why our money should ever go towards paying someone to do their hobby.

Regardless what it is, it seems team owners can and do get governments to build big stadiums and all ...to attract business to the city... But it never works out that way to make a pay back let alone a profit for the tax payer it seems...
Olymics is OK by me.. I try to push aside the politics and other bla, bla and enjoy watching the people and events..

Para Olympics....
I almost forgot.... After the regular olympics is the Para Olympics.. This for people with all manor of what most consider handicaps..
Here in the bush, we have a neighbor about my age, in a wheel chair.. A number of years ago you would see him going up and down the road in a racing wheel chair.. I don't remember where he competed, but he did quite well in his catagory and age group.. Still now he can be across the parking lot of the local mega grocery faster than many half his age can run..
Anyone follow any part of this ??

Didn't even notice that the winter olympics had finished, let alone the paralympics had begun. I usually follow the olympics, but not this time.
