I know there are many bears in the state here.. But I thought I was far enough away from the very far north and in enough of an urban area to not have this problem anymore.. Well at least not with 2 kinds of bears.. No grizzly here... However..
Many people on local social media showing pictures, short videos of black bears in neighborhoods.. It is a bit of a surprise there are so many bears reported as for many years the only things reported were the occasional fox or coyote.. Not bears.. There are many corridors for critters, and bears to access the area.. Rail road right of ways, a number of creeks that feed into the 2 rivers in the area and such... I'm sure there are many habitat, weather and other issues that have contributed to bears being this close into the metro area..
It seems there is little or no response to these animals as in there don't seem enough sightings or complaints to get a reaction to initiate a management action of any kind.. As in live trap and relocate, or euthanize an offending animal.. From previous experience my fear being someone will be hurt to include a headline to create enough attention to get a management response.. In 30 plus years I know about this area hasn't had little or any sightings and virtually no encounter issues..
So... Again, it would seem with weather, habitat changes in the form of urban expansion and the like things are changing.. Enough that now sightings, encounters, issues are starting to come to light.. And who will suffer ?? Answer = the animals..
How about your area ?? Similar trend, just different animals ??
