For mine, I think its quite telling that no-one posted on this subject for many days after the event, including me, and I wanted to do so immediately. Self censorship thats whats going on. Every one of us has thought long and hard before writing anything in this thread, or on the forum in general (and as noted several posts up, the forum is monitored).
No shade on anyone for this - it is what it is, but isn't it interesting what Australia has become.
By the way, I noted within hours of the event that comments on youtube videos relating to it were _very_ spicy indeed - but they are _all_ gone now, every single heartfelt spicy comment has vanished as if by magic and many of the days old videos that accepted comments originally have now been closed.
So the conversations as with so many things now have gone offline and in-person.

I only waited a few days before starting this thread to see if one of the mods would start something. The odd post on this forum makes me nervous, and I think in the current climate self censorship can mean self preservation

If anyone thinks there isn't a political facet to "Prepping" or "Survivalism then sorry but you are delusional! The demonisation is off the planet and the fear is fugging ridiculous even when your commentary may be borderline but certainly not illegal in any way shape or form! This is exactly the behaviour "Big Brother" and his uniformed servants want and now expect! I was watching and waiting for days and nothing came until totally unsolicited, Frostbite kicked it off. Ooops......I see he already beat me to it!

While statistically significant both of our experiences are purely anecdotal and a sample size of two doesn't provide for any kind of repeatable statistical significance, so we're both right But on reading back I realise now that you were talking specifically about that article. My very tired 'just moved cross country'-lagged brain didn't pick up on that, for some reason I thought you were applying that conversation to the ferals-turned-murderers. My bad! In fairness it seems that one woman mentions that she's worried about the stigma on the 'normies' and I can appreciate that. Regardless, I definitely would feel under the microscope if I lived around that area. It'll be a long time before those who live further out aren't eyed with something akin to mild suspicion. I think you're on the money Stealth - the article stated that the word "blockie" is a derogatory term as it is where I grew up (North Central Vic). Despised by farmers & the urban folks alike as weirdos with car bodies and junk everywhere on their titles, unmaintained property with feral dogs & people. I also understand that a real prepper wouldn't draw attention to themselves like that.

Well yes as long as it's a lawfully elected Government that's doing the nuking, just ask them and they'll tell you it's all good.

You blokes can spin it any way you like...I find it ironic that you started this post, I bit my tongue initially when you hung out MWT to dry for his theoretical, geeky ramblings on home-made pea-shooters! The truth is the horse had already bolted way before any of his off-the-cuff comments. It's the big picture nut-bag comments that will (rightfully) bring the attention.

I wonder if we'll get in big trouble from the NSW Fuzz if we get caught watching this Redneck Christmas Carol?

MWAT was being hypothetical, and somewhat tongue in cheek with my comments re Bunnings and pipes.
My purpose was to get people thinking and talking and it certainly did that. Hi to all the AFP dudes monitoring this channel.
Go and catch some real crims, not us old fuddles who muse on what may be possible in another universe.
I feel that being a smart arse is my duty, the pay sucks, but the work is very rewarding.

What Norseman said. Killing in war is different. Indeed, or if you are a police officer being shot at by bogans.
"Some rules for killing people" by psychiatrist Dr John Elard.
Abstract
‘Some rules for killing people’ is the second of the late Dr John Ellard’s essays reproduced from the book Some Rules for Killing People.* Dr Ellard, revered former Editor of Modern Medicine of Australia and Medicine Today and a distinguished psychiatrist, wrote many essays in the 1970s and 1980s on society’s most controversial and vexing issues. These were published in various journals including Modern Medicine, and a selection were chosen by Professor Gordon Parker, then Professor of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales, for publication in 1989 as the book Some Rules For Killing People. The essay here originally appeared in a 1985 issue of Modern Medicine of Australia. * Ellard J. Some rules for killing people. Parker G (ed). Sydney: Angus and Robertson Publishers; 1989. Article Extract
Depending on the circumstances, the killing of a human being may produce reactions ranging from applause to abhorrence and a desire for revenge. In times of peace the legal system is responsible for establishing the correct response within rules laid down by the parliaments. Understanding and categorising human motivation is one of the cornerstones of sentencing, yet the concepts used in the courts bear little relationship to those developed by the disciplines which have studied behaviour for generations. Clearing away the meaningless complexities would be a move towards rationality and simplicity.

It doesn't help that the Qld police commissioner got up on the news and asked for everybody to report anyone that they know who "shows concerning behaviour about conspiracy theories, anti-government, anti-police, conspiracy theories around covid19 vaccinations.. we want to know about it, and you can contact us directly or go through crime stoppers"

This country really has gone down the toilet!.....Oh sheet does that one earn me a crime stoppers call? Already there are contributors here who have hinted at dobbing in other forum posters for their provocative / "questionable" comments / content!
